Creating Blocks & Media

The Assets Pane

The right-side assets pane houses all blocks and media files that can be used on the site. Blocks are reusable components that can be placed on a page to display content in a specific format or provide custom functionality.

TIP: Use the pin icon to keep the assets pane open so it's always expanded while you're editing.

Site-Wide vs. Page-Specific Folders

For All Sites

When blocks are created under the For All Sites parent folder, they can be accessed and used on any page throughout the site.

For This Page

The For This Page folder at the bottom of the assets pane allows you to create blocks and upload files that are unique to the currently-selected page only. The content in this folder is only viewable when the associated page is being viewed or edited. Using this feature can help reduce the amount of blocks and files in the global folders, however, it should only be used if the content will never need to be reused elsewhere on the site.

NOTE: If the page is deleted, any associated blocks or media in the "For This Page" folder will also be deleted.

How to Create a New Block

Navigate to the desired block folder in the right-side assets pane and click the icon in the bottom left corner.

Blocks aren't visible on the site until they're associated to a page.

How to Upload Media

Images and files can be uploaded in the right-side assets pane through the Media tab. Click on the desired folder and drag and drop your file(s) into the bottom window of the assets pane.

TIP: When uploading media, use hyphens instead of spaces or other symbols in the file name. Especially for PDFs and other discoverable documents that will be linked to, this is increases SEO rankings and accessibility.

How to Replace an Existing Asset

To replace an existing asset, upload the new version in the same folder with the same file name as the existing item that you want to replace. Before uploading, it will ask you if you want to replace the existing item or cancel.

How to Assign Alt Text to Images

IMPORTANTTo ensure your imagery is accessible and search engines can understand the context that it provides, alt text needs to be assigned to all non-decorative images on the site.
If the image is purely decorational and doesn't add context or important information needed to understand the page (blurry backgrounds, general stock photography, etc.), then leave the alt text unassigned. Learn More About Alt Text

Images in a Rich Text Field

When images are used in a rich text field, the alt text has to be assigned through the image properties modal in the Image Description field.

Images Assigned to a Custom Field

For images that are assigned to a page or block through an image selector field (ex: Teaser Image, Callout/Feature Block images, etc.), the alt text is assigned differently.

Double click on the uploaded image's name in the right-side assets pane to open the properties.
Then, enter descriptive text into the Alt Text field and Publish your changes.
