The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) announced new sales tax and use rates, tax codes, and expiration dates that take effect on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. In the November General Election of 2024, California voters approved the latest district tax changes, which will be applied to specific cities and counties in California. If you would like to find your area’s tax rate you can check out the complete listing here.

The CDTFA administers California’s sales and use, fuel, tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis taxes, as well as a variety of other taxes and fees that fund specific state programs. CDTFA-administered programs collect over $90 billion annually, which in turn supports local essential services such as transportation, public safety and health, libraries, schools, social services, and natural resource management programs through the distribution of tax dollars going directly to local communities.
