Nicholas Tsafos, Partner-in-Charge of New York, joined hosts Julie Hyman, Myles Udland and Brian Sozzi on Yahoo Finance live. The group discussed a wide range of issues related to the recent SPAC boom over the past year or so. In fact, Nick mentioned that 20 SPACs went public in January 2021 alone. He indicated that historically low interest rates could be helping to fuel this growth.

However, Nick cautioned that investors should be no less thorough in their SPAC due diligence as they are with other investment vehicles. He noted the importance of reviewing a SPAC sponsor’s performance, strategy, goals and how they can add value to a possible SPAC IPO.

The group discussed certain sectors with robust SPAC activity, as well as other industries greatly impacted by COVID that could benefit from an infusion of capital.  One of the hosts posed a question concerning the use of SPACs to lessen the regulatory reporting requirements of going public, though Nick did not feel this to be the case. The discussion closed with where we are in the SPAC life cycle. Have we peaked or are we still ascending the SPAC mountain? Watch the full interview below.
