Battersea Power Station to Be New U.K. Headquarters

It may look familiar to you. It’s been in several movies and is the cover of Pink Floyd’s iconic 1977 Animals. It’s the London's Battersea Power Station, which Apple will call its U.K headquarters starting in 2021.

Apple will be moving into the old coal-fired power station in South West London, which was decommissioned in 1983. The company has committed to 500,000 square feet over 6 floors. Initially, 1,400 Apple employees will be consolidated from around London at the site. However, there is room for a total of 3,000 people, should Apple wish to expand.

The largest brick building in Europe, situated on the banks of the River Thames, Battersea is part of a massive real estate project across 42 acres that will include 8.5 million square feet of office space, housing, restaurants and retail stores. It is being developed by a group of Malaysian investors to the tune of $10.4 billion.

The largest office space project in London over the past 20 years, it is being welcomed by government and the private sector. It is seen as particularly important for the confidence of the British real estate market post-Brexit.

While Battersea will become Apple’s U.K. headquarters, it has no plans to move its European headquarters from Ireland.
