Stephen J. Brownell

Stephen Brownell is the partner in-charge of the firm’s San Diego office. Steve has more than 35 years of experience in public accounting with a focus on tax planning for family clients, including closely held businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and estates and trusts.
Prior to joining the firm, Steve was a founding-partner of Lindsay & Brownell, LLP, a full-service accounting and consulting firm. Before this, he was a Tax Manager at a Big Four accounting firm.
Steve has taken an active role within the community and volunteered his time serving on various organizations’ boards and is currently on the advisory board for the SDSU school of accountancy. He recently retired from the board of management of the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA, after serving for 25 years, most recently on the executive committee as a past board chair. Steve has also served on the Encinitas National Little League board, was a member of the San Diego Zoological Society’s President’s Pride advisory board, and was a member of the planned giving executive committee at the University of California, San Diego.
Steve has been a contributing author to the Bureau of National Affairs’ Tax Practice Series and has served as a lecturer in tax and accounting at local educational institutions such as San Diego State University, Southwestern, and Grossmont colleges.
